It's has been yucky outside for about three days now and I can't get my yuckyness to go away!

Here is a little Heal Brew Recipe courtesy of Laura Emily and the Apothecary Circle :

It's yummy, and slowly but surely with this and my Water Challenge still going in full force, the sun will come out and I'll feel rejuvenated.

Water Challenge: Did you know most people are constantly dehydrated? Are you one of them?

One thing that I am pursuing this year is to learn everything I can about natural and holistic healing. Last August I signed up for the Apothecary Circle with Laura Emily.  It is a year long course that has the goal of uncovering the healer within us, by building your home apothecary and giving you the knowledge and confidence to practice these remedies. All of these natural remedies are nothing without the basic: HYDRATION!!!

The first challenge of the year is the (obvious) Water Challenge. Goal: Drink 80-100 oz of water throughout the day. Start with 16-32 oz 1st thing in the morning, and after this morning flush of high water intake you can consume the rest slowly throughout the day. Currently I am on day 2 and have been struggling to even remember to drink at all! I am so forgetful, I decided to put an alarm on my phone to remind me to down a few ounces every so often.

Here is Laura's run down on proper hydration:

Proper hydration really is a life changer. Suddenly everything starts shifting. Headaches dissipate, sleep cycles fully complete each night which restores us for the day, digestion becomes highly efficient, and skin and hair quality improve dramatically. Even hormones begin to balance out aligning our mooncycles to our own personal rhythm. There are countless common and serious illnesses that have their roots in dehydration; many can be fully reversed holistically by including more water. It is the best medicine out there! Restoration at this level has a trickle affect, restoring and balancing every corner of our life as it leaves us glowing.
So what is proper hydration?
80-100 ounces a day. No more, no less. It’s best to drink 16-32 ounces of water first thing in the morning. This is called a ‘morning flush.’ Before brushing your teeth, eating breakfast, or getting dressed- gulp down 16-32 ounces of water immediately. Keep in mind that this large intake of water is not appropriate throughout the rest of your day. After a morning flush, work slowly through your daily quota. We consume up to 32 ounces at once to flush out the toxins first thing in the morning, but as the day continues, we need to feed our body at a cellular level. Large quantities of water will go right through us. Keep it small (4-6 ounces) so your body can glean what it needs for restoration. Don’t worry about frequent trips to the bathroom when you begin to increase your water intake- your body is adjusting and clearing out. It will eventually even out, and the bathroom trips will be less.

SO, with all of that said, who's with me?

If you want to join in on this challenge, now is the time to start. Its 2013, incase you are still too hungover to realize, and if that's the case then there is an even bigger reason to dive into this challenge with me.  Leave your goals, challenges, and triumphs in the comment section below! I would love to hear about your frequent trips to the ladies room (or men's room). Don't worry though, those will ween off in about a week once your body regulates your new (proper) intake of H2O.  Cheers! (With a 16 oz glass of WATER)

Cooper Young Festival 2012

CYF 2012 = SUCCESS

Distracted Renegade's booth at this years Cooper Young Festival (9/17/2012)

Every year in my home town of MEMPHIS, TN, Midtown hosts one of my absolute favorite art festivals. Beer, Music, Art, and Pronto Pups.... What more could you ask for? I meet so many amazing people every year, and am so inspired by the talent that the local Memphians have to offer. To check out my swag, click here <http://distractedrenegade.bigcartel.com/>  to go to my online shop! If you didnt get to make it this year, mark your calendar for 9/14/2013. Its such a fun day.  Over 120,000 people attended this year making it one of the best turn outs ever! Thank you to all the sponsors and orchestrators of the event. It gets better and better every year.

Although the day was amazingly busy, I needed some R&R almost as much as I needed a gigantic glass on vino.
I've been reading "Women Who Run With the Wolves" By Clarissa Pinkola Estes, and needless to say I have underlined just about the entire book. Its so amazing and empowering. I grabbed my copy from one of my favorite "book" websites <http://www.thriftbooks.com/> for only $3! AMAZING.
My body was screaming at me from being on my feet all weekend, so I added some Epsom Salt to the steamy water. It is great for tired muscles, and also helps release yucky toxins from the body. You can find it at any box store, and it is really inexpensive. I got a carton of it at Walgreens for less than $2. Well worth the pennies for the relief! Hope everyone had as good of a weekend as I  did. Cheers!
